Step 1: the quotation
You would like to have an illustration made? That is great!
I would love to receive all of your ideas and wishes for your illustration (please be as specific as you can, for example: do you have Class in mind? A theme? How many characters? ...). If necessary, I will ask some additional questions.
Based on this, I will make you a personalized quotation. When you agree with the quotation, you will receive an advance invoice (50% of the total amount) and I will plan your illustration into my schedule.
Step 2: the sketch
After receiving the advance payment, I start sketching out your illustration. This mainly involves the composition and general "feel" of your drawing.
Depending on how clear your vision and description of the desired illustration is, I will make up to four sketches.
I send these sketches to you by e-mail in low resolution and watermarked so you can provide me with feedback. After choosing the desired sketch and/or making the required adjustments, we continue with the next step.
Step 3: the base color
Once you have chosen which sketch we will continue with and the required adjustments (if any) are approved, I add the linework and the base colors to the drawing.
If you have a preference for certain colors, please let me know and I will gladly include them in the color palette.
Again, I send the work-in-progress to you by e-mail in small resolution and watermarked so you can provide me with feedback. I take care of any required adjustments, and when these are approved we move on to the final step.
Step 4: finishing touches
In the final step, I draw in the shadows and light effects, add details and spice things up with a touch of magic.
I send you the finished illustration by e-mail in low resolution and watermarked for your final approval. At this stage, any adjustments are only possible to a very limited extent.
After your approval, I will send you the final invoice. After payment, you will receive the finished illustration by e-mail, in high resolution and ready for print.
Tip: in the terms and conditions you can find more information about the process, the payment, delivery, copyright, etc.

You would like to discuss your idea first?
I'd love to hear from you! Send me a message with your ideas and questions and we'll figure it out together!
“Why will I receive the ordered illustration only digitally?”
This has a number of reasons.
I make custom illustrations exclusively digitally, which means that I draw my illustrations manually on my computer (my iPad or via my Wacom Cintiq) and not on paper or canvas. So until the illustration is printed, there is no physical product. From the moment you receive the finished illustration, you are basically free to use the illustration digitally and have it printed (note: only for personal use, so not commercially).
Because the printing is not done through me, it is cheaper and faster for you to do this yourself (or have it done). You do not have an intermediary whom you pay for extra work hours (choice of printer, choice of paper and print run, placing the order, getting the order to you, extra postage costs, etc.) and you receive your order faster because it does not have to go through me first.
Because you receive the illustration digitally, you can choose what you use it for and can even use it for multiple purposes (for example: physically printed on a card, for on your wall, as a puzzle, on a coffee cup, ... and digitally as a desktop background, as a profile picture, on your personal website or social media, ...). But again: for personal use only, so not commercially.
You can choose to print the illustration yourself or have it done by a professional printer. This can be done quickly, qualitatively and often quite cheaply via an online printer for example.
Of course, this does not mean that I leave you entirely to your own devices if you want to have your illustration printed. I make sure your illustration is print-ready and that you get the files you need to achieve the best possible printing result. I can also give you a lot of tips and advice without any obligation. So you do not know how to do it yourself? Feel free to ask me for advice!
"Why do you work exclusively with magical themes?"
Very simply, this is just what I love to do the most! I have lost my heart to fantasy, magic and nature. It is my passion. I love to draw fantasy- and/or nature-inspired characters, landscapes, worlds, ... This is what I enjoy most and where I can really express my creativity. That is why I chose to specialize in this. With my love for magic I want to enchant others, take them into a dream world, make them smile and make our world more beautiful.
"I would like to have an illustration made, but I would also like you to do the lay-out/graphic design. Is that possible?"
Yes! I do not offer graphic design with an illustration by default, as my specialization and passion lies mainly in illustration. However, I already have a good deal of experience with graphic design, so if you would like to include that, it is certainly possible. Just keep in mind that this is not included in the starting price.
“How quickly can I expect my ordered illustration?”
On average, I need one to three weeks to complete an illustration order.
How long the order takes depends on various factors: the size and/or complexity of your illustration, the reference material you provide (little or insufficient reference material can lead to more time needed for sketches and adjustments, which is also limited), how quickly you can give your feedback, ongoing orders or projects from other clients, illness, etc. Also bear in mind that I do my illustration work as a secondary occupation. So I cannot work on your illustration all day every day.
I will of course keep you informed as much as possible about your illustration and how the drawing work is progressing. I will contact you regularly for feedback and/or additional questions.
"I want to have an illustration made, but it's quite urgent. Can you squeeze me in?"
When you order an illustration, you are welcome to indicate when you need the illustration at the latest if you are facing a deadline. However, I cannot guarantee that I will be able to squeeze you in or that the time you give will be enough to get the illustration done. Sometimes it will be possible, sometimes not. But you can certainly ask the question, and we'll figure out together whether or not it’s possible.
"I have an idea that is not among the possibilities. Is that negotiable?"
Sure! The price list and the options on my website are a basis, to give you an idea of what I offer and where my specializations lie. But more is certainly possible and everything is negotiable. So feel free to contact me, I am very curious about your idea!
"The price on my quotation is different from what I had calculated based on the price list on your website. How come?"
Every illustration is custom-made. Therefore, the prices on my website are mainly a guide and can therefore be different depending on the work requested. So the price on your quotation may be more or less depending on what you want exactly. Making an illustration is very labor- and time-intensive. So if you request an illustration with multiple characters, a complex or detailed background and/or more details than what is offered in the starting price, the price will be proportionally higher.
"Will the colors of the printed illustration be exactly the same as on my screen?"
This question actually leads to a very elaborate and technical answer, but I'm going to try to spare you that as much as possible :)
What you should always keep in mind is that a monitor displays colors in a different way than when they are on paper. This has to do with the fact that a screen is a light source in itself, so the light affects the (structure of the) colors. This is not the case with paper. A screen builds up colors in a different way than a printer does/can. So when you choose colors that look bright and vivid on your screen, they may turn out dull and darker when printed. This is because printers do not have the color range that a screen can handle.
When working on your illustration, I take this into account all the time. If I know that you eventually want to have the illustration printed, I make sure that the colors of the illustration on the screen will correspond as closely as possible to how it will look on paper, so that unpleasant surprises are avoided as much as possible.
Keep in mind that there may still be a (small) difference between the colors of the illustration on your screen, and the printed illustration. This may also have to do with the type of paper you used and/or with your screen not being sufficiently calibrated (too bright, too dark, bluish or yellowish, too much or too little contrast, ...). So the colors may be displayed differently on your screen than on mine.
"Do these prices also apply if I want to have an illustration made for a commercial project?"
No, these prices and conditions only apply to illustrations for personal use, not commercial projects. For illustrations for commercial use, other conditions apply and I always make an customized quotation. Feel free to contact me for this. I would love to hear more about your project!
"I had an illustration made for personal use, but now I would like to use it commercially. Is that allowed?"
This is only possible under certain conditions and after consulting me. Please contact me for more information.
Do you have a question or would you like more information? I'd love to hear from you!
Would you like a custom illustration and are you interested in a quotation? Tell me all about your ideas and wishes and I will contact you as soon as possible!
